As he continues to get accustomed in the 140-pound division, fast-rising prospect Mario Barrios stepped into the ring with his undefeated record against 32-fight veteran Jose Luis Rodriguez Sunday night on FS1 in Lancaster, Calif.

Never one to back down in a pressure fight, Barrios ended up going toe-to-toe with Rodriguez for nearly seven full rounds in a fight where he was able to learn plenty.

Using his height to his advantage, Barrios used his long jab as a tool to get on the inside and establish strong, consistent body work.

Rodriguez proved to be more than game in facing the sixth unbeaten fighter in his lengthy career. He ate tons of shots, but continued to press forward against the younger fighter and make him work.

Barrios, however, broke through for good in the 7th, when a flurry ended with a vicious left hook to the liver that forced Rodriguez to crumple to the canvas, unable to recover.

With the win, Barrios improved to 19-0 (11 KO), and won his 12th fight in the last 27 months.

  1. Barrios will need to sharpen up his defense if wants to beat Tank. If he doesn't, he will get KOd. If he does, he will wear Tank with his size and beat Tank, possibly by KO. His defense will make the difference.

  2. Everybody thinking about the Leo Santa Cruz knockout that dude moved up from feather weight to fight Davis 126 pounder 😂. Brave fight for Davis it will be a war for sure. I predict 12 rounds.

  3. Barrios with that killer body shot OOF.
Should be a fun fight between him and Tank, gotta shore up his defense a bit on the inside if he wants to go rounds though.
