Here’s some footage & fights from the WKC World Championships that were held in Italy, October 2013.
Both Matthew & Joe’s fights are here in entirety, including Joe’s final match. As you’ll see from the footage, I’m clearly preparing Joe for the 2nd round, only to be informed that they’ve changed the rules (on the day) after the first round is over and it’s no longer 2 rounds in the finals, we weren’t informed about this at all, I’d told Joe that his opponent was going to set off quick and be prepared for it, then to step up his work rate in the second round, I’d told him to counter hard as I knew his Canadian opponent was going to push first as he did in all his previous matches, and you’ll see that, thats what Joe was doing, countering every time, I’m not taking anything away from his opponent, he was sharp and aggressive, but our plan was to keep countering in the first round then push forward hard in the second, Joe was very fit, he’d worked so hard for his chance, unfortunately we’ll never know what the outcome could’ve been, we were so disappointed, if Joe’d have gone out and lost his last round then no problem, but his chance in my eyes was taken away from him, any normal tournament not a problem, but the world championships? it cost us small fortune to get there, the venue was a complete dump as was everything else about the place, and to have the rules changed last minute without many fighters being informed, was unbelievable, so many of the fighters had no idea that the finals had been altered, funny that Joe’s opponent was fully aware, seeing as the canadian team had a say in the rules being changed. Still, its a cracking little match, and Joe’s canadian opponent is definately a young man to look out for. Anyhow its water under the bridge now, whats done is done, the boys were and are a pleasure to work with, and there’s plenty of other tournaments about!

Amazing fights lads! Wow Dave you have two true champions there I did think that Joe had that last fight though he got enough kicks in there and 1 round?. Keep going Joe and Matt you are already a champion when you walk into the gym :]
David you are an inspiration not only to the boys for developing their skills, self confidence, and control, but also to us parents. I'm so impressed with Joe and Matt and really watching you with Joe at the end was touching.
Joe should have won btw!
