  1. Let me know your thoughts on this huge trade…Habs Also received a 2nd round pick as part of this deal which I forgot to mention in the video

Sharks – Granlund, Hoffman, Ruuta, 2024 1st (Pens)
Pens – Karlsson (1.5M retained) Rem Pitlick, Dillon Hamaliuk & 2026 3rd (Sharks)
Habs – Petry (25% retained) Casey De Smith, Nathan Lagare, 2025 2nd rd pick (Pens)

  2. If Montreal can flip Petry, then it wont be that bad since they also get a second, cause Lagare is Laval filler and DeSmith is injure protection/tradeable (yes ik about his off ice in 2014, but I’m talking pure hockey here)

  3. So Pittsburgh is paying $10 million of Karlsson salary but actually even less because Pittsburgh traded away players and used that money to pay for Karlsson salary.

  4. Only retaining 1.5 million per year was a win. Getting a 2024 first round from Pittsburgh is also a win. Unfortunately, they had to take on a few players that are on the decline, and in their 30’s. So my reaction is mixed. Enjoyed watching Karlsson. He was definitely their best player.

  5. I think habs will flip petry maybe with salary retention 25%-50% at 2-3m I will be a steal for stanley cup candidates team

  6. Mtl needs to trade primeau and either desmith or allen. Petry could be also moving elsewhere. So happy to see the hoff moved. Good luck to rem in the burgh , he'll br fine there. Sharks , pens and habs look to have done ok in this. 😊😊

  7. Petry is a giveaway artist. no one coughs up the puck at centre ice as the last man on the rush like Petry. Power Play, 5v5 he is the best at making a move and failing when there is no support behind him. Hopefully the Habs send him right back out the door. They have no need for his services on the ice

  8. Great report Mike!
What an amazing trade. I like Petry and think he could do well there, obviously he was willing to accept that trade. Getting rid of Hoffman is amazing.
LagarΓ© is a nice get, Mtl kid that can go play for Rocket.
Casey de Smith is intriguing indeed.
Does Karlsson ensure Pens of making the playoffs?

  9. Great report Mike….thx.
    Huge trade indeed!!!!!
Give Dubas credit for getting Karlsson and Rem Pitlick. I'm a Habs fan and have been a fan of his since his arrival in Montreal. He's a good skater, fast and has decent hands and hockey sense. That's a great pickup for Pens.
San Jose comes out good too getting a 1st rounder and some decent talent. Hoffman should get more ice time there and he'll be a decent addition….say what you will….the guy can put the puck in the net. He was streaky in Montreal BUT I attribute that to his injuries and because they kept him out of the lineup too much. If he gets to play in San Jose…. he'll score 15-20 goals next season.
Now….the Habs…..way to go Kent Hughes…..unloads Hoffman's salary, adds Petry to either flip him or play him, adds DeSmith to either flip him or boost the goalie competition, gets some Laval Rocket help in Legare, and a decent draft pick. Re: Petry….a lot of folks (including myself) were down on him in seasons following the Habs Cup run and after his trade….no doubt he's struggled BUT he is NOT A BAD "D" and we all might be surprised if Hughes keeps him to see him be a solid veteran presence on the blue line which Habs could benefit from. Let's see what Hughes does with him next…just like the HGTV show Flip or Flop….πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

  10. Technically it would've been super easy to grab a picture of Petry in a Canadiens jersey for your thumbnail instead of putting their logo over his Pens jersey.

  11. It made the most sense for the Pens to acquire Karlsson, their contending window is about 2yrs or so and it's gradually closing…

  12. Well I think Montreal got the best end since they freed up cap space, got a goal tender that's better than what they have right now plus I believe Petry will be traded somewhere else. They also get a second round pick and now they can put Primeau on waivers and get him to laval or allow another team to pick him up. Pitts. Got the gem obviously but how long will that fair? Time will tell. And poor San Jose.

  13. Excellent breakdown of a complicated deal–so far, GM Dubas is looking like a genius in Pittsburgh. The Habs finally rid themselves of the Mike Hoffman mistake and they get back the Petry contract and Goalie Casey Desmith. Very interesting details , indeed. San Jose came out More than OK in this deal.

  14. Props to Dubas. Who knows how it all ends up working out but this was what he had to do. Clean up Hextall's mess and give the team a spark.

  15. Let the trades begin , GM’s will be scrambling now in attempt to better there teams . I feel MTL did well too , but only time will tell . Cheers πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

  16. As a Pens fan I really hope I am wrong, but I really don't like this. While we lost no important roster players, those picks are going to hurt. I understand that the window to win is now, but after one or two years, when Crosby, Letang, Malkin and Karlsson are all going to degenerate simultaneously because of age, this team is going to tank as badly as the wings. The is almost nothing coming from the pipeline in young players
