One of the biggest surprises of this years pre-season tour was Matej Kovar’s shock performance against Lyon. Cool, calm and collected, Kovar looked excellent in his pre-season appearance vs Lyon. With Onana signing, De Gea leaving and Dean Henderson’s permanent move to Nottingham Forest looking a certainty – we are undoubtedly going to be looking for someone to take on that back-up role to Andre Onana.

  1. Kovar shouldn't come as THAT much of a surprise. I know that youth football isn't the sternest test but he was so good for so long at that level. It makes sense he'd look like a prospect eventually.

  2. I hope we don't sell him to Villa for the price they're saying. Sign him long-term and loan him to a prem team. He could be worth 50 to 60 million in 3 years don't sell him cheap

  3. I usually agree with you Ste, but Barthez wasn’t a great keeper at all for us. Better in his first season as you say, but a poor signing. Reasonable with his feet but too small and a very average shot stopper. He was one of those keepers who manages to pull off a dive on the spot for a ball coming straight at him waist height. He also made quite a few very dubious mistakes. I was at OT in the game where he ran out of the box and bizarrely straight over/past the ball and into Wes Brown, allowing the opposition forward to casually run through and score into an empty net, when there was initially no risk whatsoever. There were a few similar instances I saw too, so I was relieved when he left.

  4. Think it might’ve been vs deportivo in the Champion’s league which we lost and he made another calamitous mistake in the same game. He likely cost us trophies IMO.

  5. If we go into next season with Onana, Suzuki and Kovar I would not complain with that. Obviously there's a few risks there but don't underestimate Erik ten hag who is entering one of the biggest seasons ever with still a thin squad, there you go

  6. I think he’s the immediate future … (kovar) has that van der sar aura about him…. I don’t think Onana is a great shot stopper .. making kovar an all rounder to look forward to in the next 3 years

  7. Doesn't anyone read the news? Utd decided to sell him to Sparta Prague but they weren't ready to by him as they only wanted a loan, it resulted in them going for another keeper instead, As usual its all a mess at our club.

  8. Probably loaned out and disappear. We seem good at keeping numpties. But then get rid of the young talent. At least now we seem to be lowering the average age of the team. It was starting to become pensioners Utd. Gradually growing a bit more optimistic. Getting rid of De Gea. Best move in years. Now we need to develop a killer instinct. And learn how to score goals again. Really hoping for some consistency. Man City won't drop too many points. It has been a long time since we were better than them. Hard to believe now, that for so many years City weren't even in the picture. Now we would like to be as good.

  9. I've been talking up Kovar as a future Utd keeper for 4 yrs but he's 23 & we've just signed a new 27 yr old no.1 who is far ahead of him.
He probably needs to leave, maybe with a buy back clause.
Brighton has just let Sanchez go to Chelski, he'd be a great signing for them.

  10. I’ve been listening for a long old time… I still remember watching the debate about rashford going on loan when Jose came in on fulltimedevils🤣
