Moises Caicedo’s representatives have been left baffled by Brighton’s refusal to sell the midfielder after Chelsea saw another bid worth £80million turned down on Thursday. Widespread reports suggest the Blues were knocked back in their latest attempt to sign Caicedo after their Premier League counterparts responded with a quick email to reject their bid, leaving Caicedo and his camp to consider their next move
The west London club launched an improved offer for the Ecuadorian after re-entering talks with their fellow top-flight rivals, only to see it ‘immediately rejected’ as the South Coast outfit are determined to hold firm with their £100m asking price
And after rejecting their final bid the board has now prepared options for caicedo after pochettino made it clear he needs a midfielder this summer
Chelsea are thought to be winning the race to sign Ajax star Mohammed Kudus for £40m, beating London rivals Arsenal to the deal
‘I find Mohammed Kudus a much better football player. He has much better technique and he knows what he is doing. Antony may be faster, but Kudus is smarter and more technical.
‘He is much more of a footballer, you can place him anywhere on the pitch, an all-rounder for the team. In fact, I like him much better than Antony. He’s more fun to watch play.’
Kudus almost joined Everton last season, but now looks likely to come into Pochettino’s revamped Chelsea side.
Chelsea require new players to replace those who have left this summer, such as Kai Havertz and Mason Mount.
Brighton’s Moises Caicedo is also a potential newcomer to Stamford Bridge, although Pochettino’s side are locked in a stand-off with the Seagulls over the availability of the £100m star.
While Arsenal want another midfielder like Kudus, Mikel Arteta’s side must sell players to fund their new transfer interests, after hitting the market big this summer acquiring Havertz and Declan Rice among others.
Kudus previously rejected an offer to extend his deal at Ajax, and expressed his desire to leave Amsterdam for new challenges elsewhere, despite being contractually tied to the Dutch giants until 2025
That gives pochetino another confidence that he will get the player this summer
