  1. the problem is he shouldnt be the starting striker for a team that thinks they claim to be ready to challenge for titles , but he is perfect to be the 2#. walcott and welbeck are very average players that rely solely on their physical abilities and poses little creative talent or flair. giroud isnt creative either , nor is he capable of driving the ball forwards himself . he is a target-man and a good one at that , and definitely offers something tactically to the team , but he runs into far too many goal droughts to be the leading striker , its unrealistic and perhaps even unfair to rely on him to be the 1# pick striker… arsenal still desperately need a REAL world class striker.

  2. He's good but I think he's a squad player rather than the main man, and yes the stats are decent but you also have to remember that he does miss too many chances.

  3. The problem with Giroud is far more profound:
He has always been statistically good enough to dissuade Arsenal from spending loads on a better striker, but never quite good enough to really deliver for the club.

  4. Loved this By The Numbers, is there any chance we could get one on another "divisive" figure, possibly a defender like John Stones? He divides opinion so would be great to get some statistical analysis on his performances, similar to what you did for Sterling and Özil #umaxitgiveaway1

  5. I would keep Giroud. Goal stats are one thing and yes he is a striker, but he is strong, he can hold the ball up and he allows other players to move up in better scoring positions. I personally think he is a great false 9 for Arsenal.

  6. the only better striker than giroud in de epl is sergio…nd world wide may be lewi, suarez nd abumayang…i don't see many others…othrs like lacazatte have to prove themselves in de epl..so we cant risk selling him b4 lacazzet proves his hom is de epl

  7. I like giroud and want him to stay but what those stats don't show is in 10 games he can score 6-7 and assist 2-4. Then the next 10 games he scores 2-3 and 1-2 assists and taking more shots and have more clear cut chances. his problem at arsenal is a lack of consistency if he can get that more people would give him the credit he deserves.

  8. He isn't a great goalscorer, he's a scorer of great goals. If you want to quantify his contribution to Arsenal, you need to compare his passing and assist stats to Dennis Bergkamp's.

  9. I believe i speak for many Arsenal fans when I say Giroud shoud stay, but not a starting striker. We need to get the Lacazette deal done and Giroud would be the perfect sub.

  10. The benefits are mutual for Arsenal and for Giroud if he stays at Arsenal. Please stay Olivier. You always touch the badge when you score indicating you are a true gunner. Much appreciated !

  11. Giroud is really unlucky. He played in Ligue 2 until he was 23 and when he moved to Ligue 1 it was to Montpellier (a mid-table club at best). So for him to come to Arsenal 2 years later and carry the burden of being the number one striker of a great club going through a trophy doubt is really difficult. As an Arsenal fan, I think he has done his best and while I don't think the Premier League can be won with Giroud as the main man upfront, I appreciate all the important goals he has scored and his beautiful assists as well. Many of Arsenal's great goals in the past few years were beautifully assisted by Giroud. (Podolski vs Montpellier, Wilshere vs Swasnea, Gibbs vs Swansea, Wilshere vs Norwich, Rosicky vs Sunderland, Ramsey vs Norwich and two crucial fa cup final assists to Ramsey)

  12. Giroud is one of the most underrated and underappreciated players in the PL. His movement in the box is incredible and he's clearly a good finisher. If Arsenal recognised, understood and appreciated the things he is good at, rather than criticise the things he is not maybe they would enjoy the best of Giroud more

  13. Arsenal! I support this club because of the style of football they play. They play a beautiful position driven, possession oriented passing game similar to that of Guardiola's teams and Barcelona with their own twist on it. They are able to interchange positions, play on the counter, and still be fluid and entertaining. This is what is right about the game. When eleven men are able to work cooperatively to win a football match as opposed to relying on the talent of their star players (although recently, it's at least been made out to be, that without Ozil and Sanchez, we wouldn't be where we are at; I refuse to believe that). The Invincibles capture my heart and I've stood by the Gunners through thick and thin. I'm a supporter for life. #umaxitgiveaway3

  14. The problem with Giroud is consistency. There is never a chance you can give him and say 100% he will score. The infuriating thing about him is that he is actually quite good and really puts in the effort even when others don't bother.
