Gallagher is worth at least £50million to Chelsea partly because it would take at least that to replace him, right. As a homegrown player with a unique skillset combining energy, elite pressing and high-end output in the final third, he’s a coach’s dream in many respects.
Chelsea have spent much more than £50million previously on players that have offered much less. Here is a player that has an extremely good engine and made 35 league appearances last year. The fact that he is not seen as unsellable is understandable. Gallagher is not world class, the chances of him reaching that status is also unlikely.

However, there is no willingness to sell him particularly either. This is not a Romelu Lukaku, Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic or Mateo Kovacic situation. If he stays then both parties will be totally happy with the outcome and if he goes then the same will be true because Chelsea won’t sell a player they really value for less than their high asking price.
For now though it leaves them in limbo. Other than young players potentially heading out on loan there is nobody apart of the 29-man pre-season tour group that has a future away from Stamford Bridge in the short-term. Gallagher is currently bridging that gap and now appears to be stuck in the middle. That doesn’t help him or Mauricio Pochettino prepare for the 2023/24 season.

If Gallagher is on his way out then it only enhances the chances of Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus coming in. The 22-year-old is now close to agreeing personal terms with the club as a deal for around £40million ($51m) is explored.
The Blues have moved ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign him, it appears, and the Ghanaian star has now missed training for his club in the meantime.

  1. If Chelsea FC is looking for a player to sell in order to buy Caicedo then Raheem Sterling should be sold. Gallagher will do well under Pochettino
