Celtic are close to announcing the signing of South-Korean prospect Kwon Hyeok-kyu from Busan IPark for a fee of around £850k
Here’s my thoughts…
PROS ✅
* 22 years-old
* 6’3
* VERY highly rated prospect in South-Korea
* Will add a much needed physical presence to Celtic’s midfield
* Aerially dominant
* Fantastic at breaking up play
* Will majorly help in continuing to raise Celtic’s brand/profile in Far East-Asia
* No risk transfer – only £850,000 fee
* Will likely help Oh Hyeon-gyu & Yang Hyun-jun feel more settled in Scotland
CONS ❌
* Untested at a higher level
* Not as good on the ball or creative going forward as other midfielders (not hugely relevant as his main job is to break up play in midfield)
Verdict? 7.5/10 👍🏻
Kwon Hyeok-kyu is no-brainer signing for Celtic. He’s one of the most hyped up and talked about players in Korea who likely has a big future with the South-Korean National team. For a fee as low as £850k there is far more reward on offer than risk. The profile it will give Celtic in Asia alone will probably make the transfer worth it alone! Kwon Hyeok-kyu gets my seal of approval
