I think a lot of people are forgetting that we are not getting the Messi of Barcelona. He is old and past his prime so as the rest of the players who move to MLS or Saudia Arabia. When are we going to start seeing players like Holland and Bellingham. Players in their prime. When that happens I will start caring about leagues such as MLS.

The MLS and American "Soccer" have had the following greats-Pele, Henry, Beckham, Rooney, Zlatan, Pirlo, Gerrard, Lampard, Drogba, Kaka & Keane to start with. All were past their prime when they played and used the MLS as a farewell to their competitive days. Yes, Messi (still competing at almost his best), is better than all of them, however, having him for 2 years (probably less), will NOT attract top players in their prime. You will not see Haaland, Mbappe or Vinny to come to the US. Nor will it make "soccer" a top tier sport in the US on the same level as NFL, NBA, MLB. I wish it would be but anyone who thinks otherwise, is delusional. Anyone that thinks the US soccer team will break the top 5 nations in the world in the next 15 years, is also delusional.
