Jack Dempsey was the single most ferocious fighter the world had seen to that point. He took boxing from barely legal to the biggest sport in the US. He was completely incapable of not hitting hard.

  1. Those guys back then were fighting for their own survival before they ever stepped foot in the ring..The violence in the fights was unbelieveable..Take that ferocity and put them in today's ring with the benefit of training technique, nutrition, and 100 years of technology, and they'd do just fine as boxers in 2023..Dempsey at 6'1 190 lbs would probably ad another 20-30 of mass/muscle,and combined with the viciousness in the way he fought could be champ..I'm 5'10 and I once saw Tyson at the Forum shoppes at Caesar's Place, here in Las Vegas, walked up to him and said"how you doing Champ",and shook his hand..Was surprised that we were looking at each other eye to eye..Not that tall, but very wide..

  2. Jack Johnson was accused of taking a dive for $$$. His response was "i should not have taken over 20 rounds of beating if i was going to take a dive" Jack Johnson would not allow his fights to be distracted about race. Johnson said we were all hungry in Galveston, black & white. We still revere him on Galveston isle
