load of noise about nothing.
Jesus.
Can ya not talk about sthing more interesting than this.
If ur going to get political .talk about the Jews killing the Palestinian s and stealing their land
Joe, judge and jury. Its pro sport and the Irish girls like her. Who are you to bring this up in this way. You're right, it is crazy and its you
Shut up Joe.ur making a cod of urself
An independent body who're answerable to nobody, who gets to chat to people with grievances, and then it goes down as fact with no opportunity for those "implicated" to challenge and completely disregard these so called findings. Cracking idea!
joe you are running with yourself, ego joe ego. This is sabatoge by OTB…despicable carry on and this will damage the show
You're really diving into the deep end here, Molloy. With details being so vague right now and the World Cup just around the corner, I would've sat on the fence for a moment.
Yet more vomit inducing moralising from Off The Ballβ¦letβs just investigate everyone for everything until we get rid of all the people we donβt like.
I read the Athletic article and can't understand the fuss.
Women's football who cares, except OFB soy boys.
Dead right Joe. There are numerous allegations. If the same reports,(plural) came out against Stephen Kenny or if the same report was published about a male coach of the womens team it'd be discussed in Dail Eireann. Equality when it suits. FAI feel they have a bit of traction now with the womens team so just want to brush it under the carpet for fear of bad publicity. If there's nothing to see here then great. Prove it.
This is a witch hunt on the woman because shes been successful.the fai dont want to know hence they burying their heads in the sand because she's been successful.if the womens team had a disaster of a campaign and didnt qualify for oz she probably woulda been sacked by now over this.the way of the world folks .the universe nidgey the universe
The parentalism (maybe even infantilism) here won't age well. I like Joe a lot but this exposes a worrying double standard. There was no knight in shining armour concern when stories came out about Roy with Jon Walters and Harry Arter. Why? Is it because of Joe infantilising women footballers and feeling the need to protect them? "if this was your sisters or daughters" is such a bad look. Well meaning, but it exposes serious patriarchial prejudice.
I have serious issues with the investigation and subsequent report but I feel it would have been in Vera Pauw's and the FAIs best interest to have an independent investigation. At least then they could distance themselves from the one in the US. With regard OTB covering it I mean it's a big story surrounding one of the biggest events in Irish sport
Shame on you Joe Molloy. Usual Journalist prancing where they make a huge deal about "conflicting statements" of de Pauw and the FAI and start parsing words- it's a sure sign there's nothing in the story. And as for you infantilizing grown adult women! Give it a break
Fair enough about wanting to make a point but you should have left this until after the World Cup. Any sane judgement would tell you that
Sorry Joe. You are probably my favourite OTB presenter and I take no pleasure in saying this. I despise the line you are taking with segment. It is terribly wrong in so many ways, sadly reflective of the worst instincts of modern journalism.
No need for this! Off the ball loves creating drama. Give it a rest π
Absolute rubbish. There was nothing in the article worth mentioning.
Jesus even amateur teams get told to watch their weight. A nothing story, gutter journalism trying to whip it up. The last Irish sportsperson Newstalk seriously attacked was Katie Harrington. Funny that
Is Sky Sports reporting on this story and if not are OTB asking why?
I think the only cloud over the Womenβs World Cup is being created by outsiders, the team seems very united and happy. What investigation is needed here, imagine if your current employer came to you and said βI hear you had some differences of opinion with colleagues in your last job and some people reporting to you didnβt appreciate your management styleβ¦even though youβre doing a great job here weβll be investigating youβ. What would you think?
Pauw seemed genuinely upset having to cut players from the squad, that is not consistent with the picture being painted of her in this report. Any investigation now would disrupt/spoil a possible once in a lifetime experience for many people, give it a rest.
What cloud over the world cup. Pro sport requires professionals to preform, and it takes a tough coach, otherwise they may as well be playing like in 1970/80's. No story here Molly.
Joe Molloy and Newstalk pontificating…… Wankers
The issue here is about conduct and behaviour in a work environment.
I think Joe is dead right to post this video.
The FAI 100% should have held their own investigation into this issue with each member of the Irish squad and staff.
Like any work environment there will be people who enjoy or are motivated by their managerβs, Vera Pauw in this case, style of management, equally there will be others who prefer a different approach. Iβm sure this is no different within the current Irish squad. While of course Iβm delighted for our team heading to their first World Cup, just because it seems to us on the outside that they are happy it doesnβt necessarily mean they all are.
One personβs experience is just as important as anyone elseβs, and if their experience resulted negatively and affected their mental health then that should be taken seriously.
The point raised by the journalists is how many people do you need to take the allegations seriously and investigate them? If there are more people who are happy with Pauwβs approach does that mean the ones who feel negatively are null and void?
There was an excellent recent interview with Ronan OβGara and Aisling OβReilly on OTB after the Champions Cup final where ROG spoke about how much heβd learnt about individually giving players criticism. To get the best out of them, to reflect, grow and learn as players and give them confidence rather than tearing them down. βIf a player doesnβt respond well to a bollocking, then why would I do that?β
It would be reductive of someone in a leadership role to say this is who I am, this is my style, I canβt reflect or change this for one individual. I am sure, having been a coach for a long time, Vera Pauw is constantly reflecting and changing her approach.
Had the FAI done their own investigation which came back and said we have spoken to all the staff and players who have been involved with Vera Pauw in Ireland and we have overwhelming positive responses that would be far more acceptable. Instead, they said Pauw denies the allegations, we support her, case closed within 3 hours of the report being released.
Finally someone not giving Vera a free pass on thisβ¦she told the media about her ongoing sexual assault allegations from decades ago just before a match that would have decided if she got the sack
If the team lostβ¦what was the logic behind that when a criminal case was ongoing and now these allegationsβ¦harsh? No
Totally agree. FAI should investigate and interview to find the truth. Then issue a clear report to be released into their investigation. If something comes to light at a later date about the her role in the Irish team and they have not investigated then it will look very very bad and they would have failed to protect the people they need to. Hopefully there is nothing found and everyone can relax, but it does not show the FAI in a good light. Always be sure don't turn a blind eye and hope for the best. There maybe nothing to these allegations but investigate properly and issue a report. Well challenged Joe.
Also Good luck in the World Cup you Irish female legends!
An independent investigation definitely needs to be done after the world cup to get everything straightened out. If there is strong evidence that Vera has been inappropriate in her behavior as a coach towards a lot of players at her various coaching stops then you get rid of her. That is what must be done…..
The truth is rarely found by 'reports' . There is always a bias. Sometimes the truth found by the courts. People tell lies on all sides or give their version of the truth. People have to make up their own minds.
If it was men there would be no problem. Just cuz itβs women thereβs a big fuss about it. All vera pauw is trying to do is to get the best out of them. These are adults not kids. They should be able to deal with being giving out to. If anyoneβs complaining there just soft.
Joe just trying to make a big thing out of nothing
7(!) unnamed sources. That's not journalism. There are no facts presently. Only allegations. Does the FAI want to act in such a way that denies a woman a chance to coach a World Cup squad that may then find the FAI in court defending themselves from such action?
7 unnamed sources and no secondary sourcing from the Houston Chronicle?! That's not journalism.
I have lot of issues with this. I read the report in December. There seemed to lot of spurious innocuous comments overblown weight etc. And the more serious allegations seemed in incredulous or exaggerated given the fact there does not seem to be such a pattern with Pauw. The opposite in fact.
What seems to have happened here is the Athletic blew up an old story on a slow news day for clicks. In turn OTB did a follow up. Not only that it has been unfortunately reshashed prior to the WC.
There's a hell of a lot of whataboutery in the responses here. The FAI has a safeguarding role in all this. What if this was our daughter or niece possibly affected. There's an obvious history of us Irish turning a blind eye and toeing the party line when those in authority are being challenged or accused
As womens football gets pushed mercilessly on a largely indifferent populace there's going to be many more stories like this
Has there been a single accusation from an Irish player or staff member against Vera Pauw ? If there has, then it should be investigated. If there hasn't, then wtf are we talking about ?
The guy is the most sanctimonious person in Ireland
"I'm not in the habit of doing this" Molloy never does anything but get offended by everything. All that's been said is stuff that everyone who's played team sports has experienced. Soft lad.
I don't recall Joe getting on his soap box about accountability when the Leinster games were blaring The Celtic Symphony before games. Double standards.
Never mind the fact the girls are goin to their first world cup that's totally irrelevant when there's a bit of tittle tattle to discuss GOOD GRIEF THIS TABLOID GARBAGE SHOW HATES TALKIN ABOUT SPORT JUST AS I SAY "TITTLE TATTLE"
