Aston Villa’s second signing of the window is set to be confirmed as Villarreal defender Pau Torres is to be reunited with his former boss Unai Emery in B6.

The 26 year old Spanish international will cost Villa ‘way less’ than his rumoured release clause, with the deal expected to be around £31m. We gave our initial reaction to the move and where he fits into Aston Villa’s already great defence.

  1. Hopefully it all goes through. Speaking about others ‘taking note’ or ‘taking Villa seriously’ etc, not seen much coverage of Tielamens or this Pau Torres business. All the ‘mainstream’ media are talking more about Rice, Maddison and even De Gea possibly leaving Man U. It’s ridiculous how much the traditional ‘big club’ bias is still present. But I prefer creeping under the radar if I am honest! UTV!

  2. Read somewhere that he's on a honeymoon right now? I don't think he's about to pull a Boubacar Kamara so he won't be posing with the shirt just yet.

  3. Top defender! 🎉

We need a Winger & a Striker now to make this a successful transfer window.

With the winning Emery/Monchi combo it shouldn't be an issue.

  4. With how emery played previously could see konsa playing fair bit at right back and being 4 at the back out of possession and 3 in possession

  5. Great show as always guys, its a really exciting era in Villa's history. Superb signings so far.
Unai, Monchi cooking , great Owners. UTV

  6. Tyrone Mings is now 30 so we can expect a fall from his peak in the next couple of seasons, so to bring in Torres now makes 100% sense. Pushing each other this season and naturally TM moves down to backup.

  7. Great signing proper statement signing, I’ve seen some great signings in my time, Dublin, merson, melberg laursen to name a few UTV SO EXCITED FOR THIS SEASON

  8. lets say its 442 with full backs playing full back its not a matter of is mings better than torres clearly not as things stand , its who is the best right sided centre back we have that could be any of the 4 from what i have seen mings is a better centre back there for a better right sided cb than the other 2 we have but clearly emery will have an idea what he wants to do and change it if its not optimal / on a game by game basis

  9. Hopefully villa can get a world class spine to the team now. We've got really good players throughout the team, but world class level. Martinez, Torres, Kamara, just need world class attacker and striker. Think Watkins could get to world class level under Emery but defo need an attacker, like Cheisa or Goncalves

  10. At last! Someone recognising that to seriously compete for silverware in modern pro football requires a squad of twenty-five quality senior players that can be interchanged. They'll all play enough games over the course of a four competition season. No need for sentimentality.

    Assuming 4-2-3-1.

Goalkeeper: Martinez; Olsen; Sinisalo (Olsen needs replacing this summer IMHO, but might well not be possible to find a really good back-up GK)
Right Back: Cash (and another RB required)
    Right Centre Back: Carlos; Konsa
Left Centre Back: Mings; P Torres
    Left Back: Moreno; Digne
    Defensive Holding Midfielder: Kamara; Dendoncka
Attacking Holding Midfielder: Douglas Luiz; Tielmans
    Right Attacking Midfielder: Bailey; Buendia
    Centre Attacking Midfielder: McGinn; Coutinho
Left Attacking Midfielder: J Ramsey (and another LAM required)
Centre Forward: Watkins; Archer (and another CF required)

I would also keep Chambers around as the twenty-fifth (utility) player for at least one more season. You can only do so much in one window.

If we can pick up those three or four missing players (to the quality we already have), then we'll have a squad to challenge on all fronts next season, and future transfer windows would be about fine tuning and targeting individuals.

This is getting really exciting now that the squad is coming together. UTV

  11. Tbf watching this window is exciting

If Villa sign Ferran or Barnes as well

i can see Villa doing well

but Courthino, Digne, Sanson, Nakamba, Davis, and Wesley need to go
