I get the whole midfield thing, but, why no midfield role then? Liverpool brought him through and obviously they thought he couldn't cut it as a midfielder for a reason. As an inverted right back you can see him demonstrate many midfield qualities except ball retention. Neutral observers have assumed he doesn't have that skill set, I don't know.
