The center ref did not have the presence for a game like this. When the Mexican team kidnapped Weston McKennie the Mexican coach should have been given a yellow card.

Lots of comments saying the ref lost control. I saw it totally differently…I thought he had a firm hand but let them play. The cards were largely extracurricular post-whistle stuff, which he dealt with. Crazy how different people seeing the same thing have a much different impression.
What a stupid rule especially when the ref made terrible calls. The ref had no control over that game and he abused the red card because of it. Make the players pay a big fine or something. Missing a finals just because the ref made a terrible call is stupid and unfair. Everything about that game was an embarrassment incl the USMNT for bringing back Berhalter, possibly the most ridiculous thing that happened that night.
