Sevilla Champion Europa League 🏆 Gonzalo Montiel converts the penalty

Sevilla secured their seventh Europa League title by defeating AS Roma 4-1 in a penalty shootout, marking Jose Mourinho’s first loss in six European finals.

The match, held in Budapest, ended 1-1 after extra time, prompting a tense shootout. Gonzalo Montiel, who had previously scored the winning penalty in the World Cup final for Argentina, converted the decisive spot kick to secure the victory.

Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou played a pivotal role in the shootout, saving penalties from Gianluca Mancini and Roger Ibanez. In contrast, Sevilla’s execution was flawless as they successfully converted their first four penalties.

During regulation time, Paulo Dybala gave Roma the lead with a goal from a counter-attack in the 35th minute. However, Sevilla regained control of the game and equalized through an own-goal by Mancini in the 55th minute.

Despite finishing outside the top four in LaLiga, Sevilla’s triumph ensures their qualification for the following season’s Champions League. The victory also cements their unbeaten record in Europa League finals, making them a dominant force in the competition.
