Detroit Lions Offseason Workouts Underway
In this episode of the Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Michael Grey to react to the Detroit Lions rookie class and share our first impressions from the Detroit Lions rookie mini camp and offseason workouts. Much of the team is in Allen Park beginning to work together for the first time as the core components of the 2023 Detroit Lions roster. Players are showing off what they have and giving fans and media first looks at how they may perform. There is a lot to take in.
Detroit Lions Podcast Reacts to 2023 Detroit Lions Offseason Workouts
The first big item to notice is the possibility that the Detroit Lions defense may be taking on the identity of Jerry Jacobs Seatbelt gang (http://seatbeltgang.com) more broadly. Players across the defensive side of the ball are embracing the Seatbelt Gang mentality and setting themselves up to show they are the most improved part of the roster for the 2023 Detroit Lions.
We’ll cover our first impressions of the Detroit Lions rookies, discuss our upcoming interview with Broderic Martin, take a bit of a deep dive into our thoughts on where the 2023 Detroit Lions stand in their rebuild process, and discuss some (hint: absurd) trade rumors circulating around fans and “media” right now (hint: Quinnen Williams). We’ll also cover the Detroit Lions Social Media team and give them credit for some of their amazing work – particularly their “Deez Nutz” nod to DLP. Lastly, we’ll talk about the relative perceived value of players and draft positions for Brad Holmes and the Detroit Lions vs. other teams in the NFL. I think you’ll find this a very interesting discussion (and one you haven’t heard elsewhere).

Great show, as always. You still underestimate Goff. As Michael said, Goff was smart and tough enough to play out a season with a crap team in 2021, knowing, in advance, that it was going to be a repeat of his first year at Cal and with the Rams. Having Lynn call the plays did him no favor; but that was offset by seeing Campbell stick with him and make Johnson the OC.
As Goff told the team, when they started winning, "it feels different, doesn't it?" He knows what it takes for the Lions to win and that includes signing a talented backup, someone good enough to replace him. Goff wants to win, and he knows that you win by having enormous depth at all positions, including his own. I am confident that, when Holmes and Campbell told him that they planned to draft Hooker, Goff told them to do it because the Lions need a mobile QB.
People who really want to win understand that you build a team by having everyone, even the QB, park their egos. To a grown-up, someone who understands how you do your job, getting better players on your team is all that matters. Goff, of all people, knows what happens when teams stop trying to get better.
The two of you together is so good. Great conversation and dialogue! Go Lions!
Love Grey's takes, with him and Ris this is one of the best Lions' inside stuff on the web. MILIVE Doom is really good as well, that has more day to day stuff with chill dudes dissing it out. We are really blessed to have such great color insiders, who are all great, sane, fun insiders.
Yeah, Goff made the pro bowl cuz he's average! Come on man, we're going to win the super bowl with this guy, so you b** get on board.
Everybody wants a quarterback to be all everything. That isn't always how you always win. Just saying.
Exactly
I was just going to say that, Mr Gray, dead nuts on. We're hearing that, comment
Maybe it always took a woman to figure it out. Like her or hate her, she changed things! That is of fact!
Love this channel, you guys get most of it right. Refreshing!
How would you rate the value Holmes is able to get from the draft? Do you think he sees more value than standard charts in the draft picks he receives? Let us know in the comments below!
I feel like we are building a "greatest show on turf" type of offense. Think about it…with Ray Agnew being the Assistant GM and playing on that team, you know he's had conversations with Holmes about it.
I'm a little surprised that no one seems to talk about that game last year against Washington. The first half, the D completely shut down the commandettes. They couldn't get 20 yards i think in that while half. That's what I envision we are gonna be full time
Google says Longetivity is not a word and should be avoidedπππππ
I do miss the Killer. I am ecstatic that the Lions named the media room in his memory.
2 months away to camp
Michael, was your anti-Goff tweet set to auto-post the moment Goff ran onto the field on every first drive and did his Double Knee Lift Jump?
Really enjoying the addition of Michael!
Michael Gray is an A+ addition to the team.
I'm obviously not a deep fan of other teams so I don't REALLY know…but I have to imagine the lions fanbase works harder than any other fanbase to discredit their current quarterback. The Goff hate just doesn't make sense to me. He can win a super bowl in Detroit and parts of the fanbase will try to discredit him. I feel bad for the guy. Brad Holmes believes in him, and we should too.
you could call the detroit defense the "scratch and dent" defense.. bc a lot of players brad signed and took in the draft are recovering from injury, but are high talent, cerebral players
Jesus, they dont get into the actual content until over 7 minutes. Annoying.
