England’s Euro 2020 campaign got off to a winning start as Raheem Sterling’s goal secured victory over Croatia at Wembley.
Sterling repaid England manager Gareth Southgate’s faith in him, sliding in the winner after 57 minutes following a perfect pass from man-of-the-match Kalvin Phillips.
Southgate resisted the temptation to play Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish and was rewarded with a lively performance from Sterling as England secured the win their superiority deserved.
The Three Lions almost took an early lead when Phil Foden struck a post but there were the first signs of frustration from fans and players just as Sterling made the decisive contribution with his first goal in a major tournament.
Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was barely tested by a disappointing Croatia side, who never looked like repeating their victory over England in the 2018 World Cup semi-final in Moscow – leaving England with three points to take into Friday’s second Group D game against Scotland at Wembley.

I have been agitating that Chelsea go for Dominic Calvert-lewin. What do you have to say?? I respect your opinion and will like to hear from you . I see Calvert-lewin doing well at Chelsea. He is young, quick, has good positioning in the box, good finisher , tall and can head well. He will definitely cost us less. He is tested in the premier league. We don’t have time to wait for players from abroad to get use to the premier league before showing us what they can do.

All the talks of Tuchel buying Declan Rice, or buying camavinga, after the master class I saw today- Chelsea should be looking to buy Kalvin Phillips- what a beast!!
Great start for us! Great result today. Phillips was fantastic today and a good set up for Raheem’s goal! I thought Mings made some great defensive interventions to help us keep a clean sheet! Overall as a team I thought that in the first 20 minutes we were on the front foot, we were creating opportunities and space but it looked like Croatia were getting more of the possession but thankfully we held on to win!
Chelsea should go for Philips and stop thinking of Rice what a player?
This shows how good is Mount.Who is Foden after his attempt he was totally flopped.Mount is better than Foden in terms of playing.
England can’t make space when they gets to the defense and it’s a big problem for them.They are always together with no space for Kane to run through it’s a big problem.They have to run with the ball and make good crosses not always being too close to their players.

I feel really bad for Modric and Kovacic. They ran the midfield, pressing and distributing the play for literally nothing.
They put a few of courageous forward passes and it will quickly go wasted by Croatia's final third. Their final third will either lose the ball or just simply standing still not sure what to do with it. Poor for Croatia.
On the other hand, England weren't that good either. Phillips and Mount's energy were the telling difference for the result. God damn it, Sterling wasted Mount's beautiful lob ball, didn't he?

The reason he played trippier was that he wanted an extra body in midfield. And walkers pace to stretch the wingers.

I haven't being watching game between England and Croatia, but I am glad that England got the win. Younes I am not a big fan of England, but I am however a German fan.
