There was no need for pep to come out and definitively say zinchenko is not leaving and city are not bringing in anymore players. Managers deflect those types of questions all the time when they're not sure one way or the other. For him to come out and say that makes me think we really are not bringing anyone else in. How they can actually go forward this season relying on mendy and zinchenko when tagliafico is available for just 22mill is beyond me. Guess the only trophy we have a shot at is that worthless carabao cup that nobody cares about just like last year.

Had City have wanted to get Tagliafico for that price, they would have needed to have gone in for him at least 1 1/2 weeks ago. This was an agreement that more or less was 'if you stay an extra year, we will work with any potential buying club, on the proviso it isn't during the winter window and isn't too close to the deadline'. In this case proviso #2 is the reason it will not happen, at that price.
