As a Scouser & having a lifelong rivalry with man utd, I have to say that the man u treble winners were a lot more authentic than this city side & deserve a lot more respect imo.
The backbone of the man utd side was crammed with former academy players, this city team has been put together with billions of pounds of sports-washing oil money & deserve ZERO respect.

The most blatant fact that blow Micah Richards opinion is that the 1999 treble team was playing against far more better opposition. The amount of world class players in the champs league in the 90s & to pre 2010 was ridiculous, even the smaller teams had some great players. There's no where near the same amount of world class players in football of today. Anyone wants to debate I'll reel off a load of names that will put this to bed very quickly
City are doing Great but this season & last imo is the worst champions league for maybe.. all time. Barca aren’t they side they were, real are not liverpool should of beat them really Madrid are weakest in decades. Man Utd are not a great side at the moment, liverpool poor this year, juventus are not great, Bayern, Chelsea, Milan sides etc… I’ve never witnessed in all my years so many of the elite sides poor as this.

As a Manchester United fan since 1990, I couldn’t care less to be honest. City are a superb team and congratulations to them should they go on to match the historic treble. You can talk about points, or who swept who away, or what manager is better etc. I don’t care. Utd gave me the best memories growing up, and I wouldn’t swap those great nights (particularly that 98-99 season) watching them! The drama, emotion, classic comebacks! The Semi-Final replay at Villa Park still remains my favourite ever game.
The question is hilarious. Two teams playing 20 years apart. Game has gone soft,fewer tackling,has become more technical. So its a very unfair comparison,you cannot bring that united team to today's game,same with cuty,you cannot take them to 90s.

1 thing you do have to say though back in there day there was better players. the amount of great strikers there used to be compared to now is crazy. there was better defenders back in the day as well. and midfielder are no where near as gd as the 1999s now but city are a great team i wont say they arent. the levels in the campions league is so different now as well.

Good point about the bigger challenges domestically and in Europe. The 1999 Arsenal team is a lot better than Arsenal now, and the Bayern, Juve, and Barca then are far better than their equivalents today. City are great, maybe a better team, but it will be a softer treble if they do it.
Not a united fan, couldn't care less. But they was better than city. No oil money, no cheating with ffp. Plus, sir alex spent a few years building a top team. Pep inherited a top team.
The utd 99 team didn't sweep all before them….. in ucl drew more games than they won, came second in their group. In the fa cup had to do a replay with chelsea as well as arsenal. In the prem they won by a single point. So no definitely not swept anything.

Man City no where near yet. Take a look at Alex Fergusons list of achievements and then look at Peps. Pep is probably 25 percent there. Micah is full of SH1T. I think the team Fergie built in 99 plus again later with tevez ronaldo and rooney etc would beat man citys now.

The 99 team had alot more quality to teams to beat. Due to their rich owners city are by far head and shoulders amongst the rest and european scene isnt as competitive as back in 99

we had Bayern Munich, Barcelona , inter, juventus , bayern again to win champions league
we had liverpool , Chelsea, arsenal then Newcastle in final of fa cup
we had arsenal and Chelsea both until last game of season behind us
you had an easy fa cup run only now you play united in final
you had easy champions league only played bayern , real in later knock out and got easy intervteam in final
league you won with 3 games

Pft…….it's no contest. Utd '99 was a team with an academy spine, with limited buying power, playing at a time when Prem football wasn't the strongest in Europe and they beat giants of the European game with teams full of legendary players on the way to the Treble.
Even if Man City do the Treble, its not really the same caliber of achievement considering their limitless war chest and the standard of European teams today compared to the 90s.
I feel like people overrate some teams due to nostalgia. It's not that outrageous to call the city team one of the best teams to ever play in the premier league.
