Mathew Leckie HOPING to INSPIRE young Aussies after Qatar 2022.
Australian goal hero Mathew Leckie said he hopes to help inspire a new generation of football players Down Under after the Socceroos made it into the round of 16 for the second time ever.
The Melbourne City striker said he was delighted by scenes in his home city of fans celebrating the win over Denmark, and spoke of his pride in the whole team and their achievements at Qatar 2022.
Ahead of Saturday’s clash with Australia, Leckie said he prefers Lionel Messi to Cristiano Ronaldo, describing him as “the most talented player with a ball at his feet”.
But he still believes Australia can upset the odds in a one-off game, vowing that the Socceroos want to “go out and shock the world”
