Who appointed Rigobert Song as Cameroon coach, why song’s reputation could suffer irreparable damage

The new coach of Cameroon Rigobert Song was recommended by Samuel Eto’o, instructed by president Paul Biya, signed by Cameroon’s sport minister Mouelle Kombi – whose decision to extend Antonio Conceiçao’s contract sparked a row. Now the question that is left to answer is: Who actually appointed Song?

I don’t feel okay with this decision, Rigobert Song just doesn’t sound right to me right now and why not wait until we play the qualifiers for the World Cup this March before replacing Antonio Conceicao?
Concecao wasn’t even that bad. He had issues on the attacking front, but that could easily have been fixed. Which it was proven this African cup of Nations ending with us having the best attacking team. I mean, he was doing a great job. Under his tenure we lost just two games with 14 clean sheets and 14 victories and 8 draws.

Cameroon copying Senegal’s homework a bit with this Rigobert Song appointment too. Raymond Kalla being in his staff to hold his hand is apt too, as he was the superior (if less celebrated) defender of the two. Also, having a Frenchman as assistant is an interesting reversal of dynamic.

In other words, Rigobert Song is the black Ole Gunnar with dread logs. Big hearts and gorgeous characters don’t always cut it at this level, rather competence and top level managerial ability of which Song is clearly lacking. This appointments are just Pure nostalgia and nothing more, an old boys reunion.
But I really wish Rigobert Song BAHANAG and his entire staff good luck though. I hope Rigobert Song can succeed. He’s a top man with a big heart and a gorgeous character. And has proven that in numerous occasions whenever he was our team captain.

Normally very few will contest Rigobert Song’s appointment because Cameroonians really love him. The issue is the timing. 24 days to a crucial game against Algeria. If it goes well, that’s ok but if Cameroon doesn’t qualify, Song’s reputation will suffer irreparable damage.
And I will honestly say that I watched him coach the intermediate lions, i watched him with the U23. He didn’t inspire me a single bit. He will have to surprise me. I can’t pretend to be optimistic.
