When it comes to First-Round draft picks who have spent much of their careers trying to make the jump to the bigs, one name that should immediately come to mind is Josh Ho-Sang. As the 28th overall pick of the 2014 draft, the Canadian forward was seen as a high-risk, high-reward player who was just as likely to boom as he was to bust. Unfortunately over the last 7 years, he very much seems to have become the latter…
So why hasn’t he been able to make the jump to the NHL long-term? Well in today’s video, let’s figure it out as we ask the question: what’s happened to Josh Ho-Sang?

As a St Louis native and a life long Blues fan, I wanted Nail Yakupov to work out but it just didn't happen. That high energy style of play simply didn't work. Yakupov had a similar attitude and was an amazing player but we all know where he ended up. It's a shame to see so much talent go to waste but these guys need to understand who you think you are is secondary to the team. This isn't the NBA where 1 or 2 player can carry an entire team. It's the NHL…
He’s now played 5 minutes for the team and has 1 assist. Not bad for 5 minutes of ice time this year lol!
You are very well researched my friend
Damn it felt like that Manscaping ad wouldn’t end😂
I've gone to flyers islanders preseason games for years and years, his offensive skills were scary, good stick handling and very fast, only preseason tho
He had his problems but the islanders did him no favors bringing him up and sending him down every other second, evening after he scored pretty decently. I’m not gonna expect someone to score much on a team that wishes they could win every game 1-0.
The way u sing the last word of the sentence makes me want to commit multiple wrong doings
This dumb shit can't even set an alarm for a multi million dollar career. LOL
Josh Ho Sang really hasn't really been given a true chance to succeed , period !
Lol why does every video I watch have a manscape add we get it shave your balls haha
Now the SHL team cut him after 5 games due to showing up in poor shape.
Josh ho-sang has been released by örebro hk, after three weeks
Now he’s too out of shape to even play
.5 ppg and -4 in 53 games is not bad at all. Of course if he scored a point per game hed be in the NHL, hell, hed be on the first line.
Its definetely not his stats. Its his attitude, or something else.
So many players have worse stats than that and still play in the NHL
Man there is POLITICS in the NHL's
NEW YORK JUST SCREWED THE DUDE
THERE IS A LOT MORE PLAYERS WHO IS DOING WORST THAN THAT
He got kicked out of Örebro in the SHL a few days ago. he did not produce enough..
Did anyone else think that Bridgeport sound tigers was a team called the tigers from Bridgeport Sound? As opposed to the sound tigers from bridgeport?
Could you make these available in audio format mate
Simple answer, bad attitude.
No one wants a player with a shit attitude! Period!
I’ve always wondered what Ho Sang could’ve been under a different organization, like don’t get me wrong he seems like a tool (especially taking 66) but he’s no Tony Deangelo. And Lou is a good gm but very old school, he might’ve been the worse Gm for a guy like Ho Sang to have
His 4th yr in the OHL was not his overage year. He could have got back for 2016-17, which would have been his 5th and overage ohl season.
I watched him many times as a season ticket holder in Windsor. Crazy talent. Rocks for brains.
He was a superstar in his own mind, an arrogant punk ass……. there were MANY talented players, but between their ears.. not talented = this bum
I'm sure he is still screaming how amazing he is as he takes the BUS in the American league.
I see him ending up with the Seattle Kraken once the expansion draft takes place. I think his tenure with the Islanders organization is over. Needs a fresh start.
You never show up late for a meeting? You going to crucify him for that? A bit unfair don't you think? What about Tavares walking on the team to Toronto? Who wants to by here in NY more? LMAO
The funny thing is that Örebro dumped him after 5 games, with little to no ice time. And he joined my hometown team, Linköping HC, and got to play 4 games and got "dumped" (didn't really get dumped, just was scratched for the rest of the season). One of my friends works at a fast-food burger restaurant and another one at a kebab/pizza restaurant, he was at the kebab shop twice, and at the burger place like 4 times, so he was there more than he played for us… 😛
Why in the fuck is the Leafs giving this guy a PTO?
Leafs it was a verbal attack also leafs sign ho sang to training camp
your voice is weird
Leafs have him on a PTO. If they sign him he could play with Tavares and Nylander they should be called the NYLander line.
this guys voice pisses me of for some reason
Is he going to play in the NHL this year? With the Leafs!?
Who else is here after seeing him in a leafs jersey?
He’s on a PTO for the Leafs
AND HE'S BACK
Doing well for the Marlies now
The Islanders could of played him with someone like Tavares, boasted his numbers, increased him as an asset… and sold him off in a trade. They messed up.
The NHL has a similar problem to that of MLB clubs which was portrayed in the Moneyball film. But the problem hockey is facing is that clubs, fans and even most coaches put completely unrealistic expectations on first round picks and if that weren't bad enough, they often disregard lower picks. If a player is an undrafted free agent, their chances of making it to the NHL are practically nil. In this case, however I think this player was just drafted too high. One thing you never want to see from any draft pick but especially a first round pick is when his numbers either level or trend down over the course of his college or junior hockey years. And that's the case here, where his ppg increased over his first two years of junior, peaked and then dropped. That's almost always an indication of something serious happening. But that doesn't mean Ho-Sang couldn't have been a contributing player, but because he was a first round selection, he wasn't permitted to develop into a middle of the road winger who could score 15 goals on the 3rd line. His AHL numbers have remained about the same throughout his career and at age 26 I don't know what else people expect. There is no reason why half the teams in the NHL couldn't use this guy and in my view he has suffered from that first round tag being hung around his neck.
