Eryk Williamson was interviewed by Scuffed Podcast and mentioned how Gregg’s system is difficult to pick up on short notice. It is complex and took Eryk 3 windows just to grasp. Derek and Brett discuss whether the international game should be kept less complex and how difficult it would be for new faces in camp.

  1. Well look at how some of the players played outside of the national team. ie Brendan Aaronson looks great for Salzburg, but for the US he has looked decent but not great.

  2. GGG wants to be an American Football coach. He would send in plays if he could or he would have the players wear wireless ear pods so he can talk to them and tell them what to do throughout the game. Lol

  3. It's predictable and conservative to a fault. We simply don't have enough players committed to the attack in the box at any given time… usually one striker and one wing or wingback coming in from the weak side… i.e. being out numbered in the box nearly all the time.

  4. Off-topic CCV update: There are rumors that West Ham, Leicester, and Wolves are after Cameron Carter-Vickers. It will be interesting to see if Celtic want to break their record transfer fee to keep him. They just got back French CB Christopher Jullien back from injury, so they might not want to break the bank on a defender. It will be interesting to see what happens with him over the summer. If he goes to the Premier League, that might change some minds about his inclusion in our national side.

  5. I really liked Williamson in gold cup. He’d be a good option to have now. But it’s baffling to me that Gregg hasn’t realized that it’s not a club team

  6. Why don’t we let the other team have possession sometimes? So we can catch them on the counter. So we don’t have to worry about 10 players in the box

  7. Bottom line: When one or two players underperform, it's on them, but when almost every player underperforms, it's on the coach. Looking at the quality of our players, the quality of the opposition, and the results, we are significantly underperforming in WCQ. That has to be on GGG.

  8. Where does Williamson fit in the pecking order once fully recovered from his injury? He had some moments where he looked promising over the summer but now it seems like nobody talks about him since his injury and the emergence of Busio, de la Torre, and even Tessman who has yet to even get on the field for us.

  9. I am curious how much of the issues are more because of player selection (which everybody complains about) because it seems like the most painful games come when we play guys with lead feet
