The third Bundesliga goal from Werder Bremen youngster Joshua Sargent was a sight to behold. Technically challenging and wonderful to watch, the inspiration for it may have come from an old master and his teammate, Claudio Pizarro. The 40-year-old Peruvian scored a similar goal against FC Schalke 04. Both strikes are worthy of the title of ‘excellent’. How many more goals will Sargent score this season? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Once a pon a time there was a legend. His name was Claudio Pizzaro. In the yearly 2000 this Bremen legend scored a magnificent goal.
In the same year when Pizzaro scored that goal there was a young American boy who got born…After 19 years this young boy went to Bremen and scored the same goal as Pizzaro and then got substitute by the same legend that scored the same goal 19 years ago…
    His name was Josh Sargent!!!

    END

  2. Whats good here is the composure he showed after his initial poor touch to flick it over the keepers head, that was quality. Lesser players would have panicked or rushed a shot. The Bergkamp comparisons i hearing on social media are silly. Looks a good player overall.

  3. Similar goals but Pizarro’s first touch looked better, until you realized that he was receiving the ball at more of an angle, while Josh Sargeant’s reception of the goal was more over his back. That reception (over the shoulder/back) was tough. Josh was directly faced up on the goalie, so he had to make a “cradle” for the ball to keep his momentum from allowing the ball to stray too far in front where the keeper would get it. He was successful in keeping the ball from going forward but he couldn’t quite soften the touch to keep if from bouncing off of his chest, yet, he stayed calm and reacted well to rainbow the keeper and get his goal. For me, the Pizarro goal showed his great touch, but just wasn’t as challenging a situation. Both are fantastic goals…
