We’ve had to wait a little while, but the European Championships finally starts this month – albeit a year late. Team by team we will preview each of the 24 teams that will play at UEFA Euro 2020. Today, it is the turn of Italy.

The good times are back in Italy. They qualified perfectly for the tournament with 10 wins from 10, playing a quote-unquote ‘Tikitalia’ style of play. Roberto Mancini dredged Italy from the doldrums of failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup and is currently embarking on a legendary unbeaten run to rival that of two-time World Cup winning manager Vittorio Pozzo from the 1930s.

Italy are atypically Italia this time round. They have an expansive midfield and rarely seen vibrant attackers from wide in the form of Federico Chiesa and Lorenzo Insigne. Ciro Immobile has been unstoppable for Lazio, Mancini will hope he will revert that form to the international stage. In defence, Italy have more of a familiar picture – Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini the elder statesman patrol the backline.
