Wolves forward Daniel Podence has been charged with allegedly spitting on Brennan Johnson during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest. The incident occurred in the 90th minute and was controlled by VAR at the time but no action was taken by referee Chris Kavanagh. After the match, Johnson said he was surprised that Podence escaped suspension. He said “I won’t blame him but I felt like I had some kind of spit on my face. The referees looked, so it’s over now. “At end of the day, it’s not me, VAR team is looking at it. I’ve seen it up close and they look at it very differently. Maybe they didn’t see something that I couldn’t see.” I saw it, so at end of day they didn’t give a red card and I just had to continue rest of game.” If found guilty, Podence will face a mandatory six-game suspension, which will be a major blow the Wolves to avoid being relegated the relegation zone. Nottingham Forest were also accused of failing to control their players when they surrounded the referee in the 40th minute after Kavanagh denied penalty appeals when Emmanuel Dennis’ cross was struck by Nelson Semedo. Jungle assistant Alan Tate and Wolves assistant Pablo Sanz were also charged with “inappropriate andor violent” behavior at the 52nd minute after they were ejected from the game after a touchline brawl. Podence, Forest, Tate and Sanz have until Wednesday, April 12, to give their own answers to the FA.
