🗣️ ‘Yeah he doesn’t mind it, I think he’d have a fight by himself!’
Ange Postecoglou praised Alistair Johnston’s contribution since joining in January after full back’s performance in Old Firm win.
“He’s again, another one. You know when you bring guys in you obviously look at what they can bring to you from a playing perspective but you know having represented this football club now for twenty months I knew it before he arrived.”
Postecoglou continues:
“You also knew it takes a certain type of personality to play here. The expectations every week. You perform every week. You try to be your best every week. You have to overcome your opponents and you know Alistair exemplifies all of that. He’s a very, very good footballer. He physically you know, he’s outstanding in terms of the position he plays, but he has that character and winner’s drive as well.”
The Celtic FC manager also talks about the impact that right-back Alistair Johnston has had since arriving at the club:
“You know he’s been here I think four months and he’s already played in three of these kinds of games and in everyone he’s stood up really well. It’s great for this football club because again, you know, to have a successful team the more of those particular types of characters you have the more likely you have success.”
Ange Postecoglou’s appointment as Celtic FC’s manager in June 2021 raised a few eyebrows within the football community. Many questioned the decision to bring in the relatively unknown Australian coach to lead one of the most successful and storied clubs in Scottish football. Little did they know that Postecoglou’s innovative tactics and unwavering belief in his philosophy would be the catalyst for a remarkable turnaround at Celtic Park.

Ange Postecoglou’s footballing philosophy emphasizes attacking, possession-based play, and a high-pressing defensive style. His insistence on attractive, entertaining football has been a breath of fresh air for Celtic fans, who have been enthralled by the free-flowing and creative football on display.
Adapting to the Scottish Premiership:
Postecoglou’s initial challenge was to adapt his style of play to the rigours and physicality of the Scottish Premiership. The Australian manager wasted no time in recruiting players who fit his philosophy, ensuring that the squad was adequately reinforced to compete on all fronts. Postecoglou’s keen eye for talent and ability to develop players has been a major factor in Celtic’s resurgence.
Key Signings and Player Development:
Ange Postecoglou’s recruitment strategy played a vital role in his success at Celtic FC. He quickly identified the need to bolster the squad with a mix of experience and youth. The signings of players like Kyogo Furuhashi and Jota brought flair and goal-scoring prowess to the team. Furthermore, Postecoglou’s ability to develop and improve existing players was a significant factor in the team’s upturn in form.
Building Team Spirit and Unity:
One of Postecoglou’s most significant accomplishments has been fostering a strong sense of unity and togetherness within the Celtic dressing room. Players have been vocal about their admiration for the Australian manager’s leadership and the positive atmosphere he has created at the club. This team spirit has translated into performances on the pitch, with the side showing a never-say-die attitude and fighting for every point.
Silverware and European Success:
Under Postecoglou’s guidance, Celtic has reclaimed its status as a dominant force in Scottish football. The team’s return to the summit of the league table and the lifting of domestic silverware is a testament to the impact of his management. Additionally, Celtic has enjoyed improved performances on the European stage, turning heads with their brand of exciting, attacking football.
