Clarets defeat 10-man Blades, moving one step closer to the championship. Burnley defeated Sheffield United 2-0 as they celebrated their return to the Premier League.

Goalkeeper Wes Foderingham’s early dismissal cost the Blades the game, but the Clarets recovered due to a second-half double from substitute Johann Berg Gudmundsson.

On the hour, Gudmundsson—one of his introductions—made the difference when he grabbed onto a deft Tella header and fired past Adam Davies, the goalkeeper Sheffield United brought in to replace Foderingham.

Ten minutes later, it was Gudmundsson once more who put the outcome beyond question by capitalizing on another defensive blunder by Sheffield United.

Burnley played their first game since beating Middlesbrough on Friday night to ensure their return to the top division, and they didn’t appear to be suffering from a hangover as they moved 14 points ahead of second-place Sheffield United with six games remaining.

They are now five points ahead of Luton in third place, despite having a game in hand, and may clinch the title as early as this Saturday.
