I thought the commentator did well in the match. It’s the 3rd time I’ve heard him call a football match. Although he made a few mistakes with some facts (for example, saying it was Shoja’s Team Melli debut when Shoja was called up to camp before Brasil 2014), he’s new and I’m sure he’ll get better!
As far as the friendly match, I think it couldn’t have come at a better time. I think this was a great start to catching a little bit of momentum under Skocic. If the Mali game didn’t get cancelled we could’ve gone further in terms of catching momentum. We would’ve been able to see more “holes” in our game. Catch mistakes we need to work on as a team. Niazmand is a good GK, he’s definitely one of the best domestic based GKs. And he definitely deserved the call and the start! But I do agree with his lack of presence in this match. He did well despite the goal conceded. However in my opinion, Mazaheri’s experience will come in handy in the long run, being a veteran of the league as well as the national team. It is true he didn’t have the best end to his season. But I think he can make a comeback given what we’ve seen of him in desperate situations at Zob Ahan, and at Tractor.
The first half was good, we were connecting well. Getting the ball to their box, creating chances and opportunities from the sides and from the middle for Azmoun and Taremi. The second half wasn’t good. The changes we made in the second half didn’t really help. But it was important for Skocic to see how Ghaedi, Rezaei, Nemati and the rest of them do in Team Melli’s shirt.
I am content with the result and looking forward to seeing where we go from here and how Skocic will manage this team!
13:49 Yup! I completely agree with you there. You can see how well Azmoun’s form at Zenit translates into Team Melli. But under Carlos it was always 50/50 with Azmoun. And part of it does have to do with Azmoun’s lackluster performances in the RPL (example: first half season at Rubin Kazan (2017-18). But because of our defensive tactics we couldn’t see more from Sardar at the World Cup. The same with Ali Jahanbakhsh. But that was then and this is now, and hoping 🤞🏼 under Skocic we will continue to see improvement!
