Atlanta United hosted Portland Timbers at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday in what was a flashback to the setting of the 2018 MLS Cup when the two sides met and Atlanta lifted the trophy. In this edition, Atlanta United got five goals from four different goal scorers, including a brace from Thiago Almada and the first career MLS goal for Giorgos Giakoumakis, to defeat the visitors 5-1 and remain unbeaten on the season.

Atlanta United joined Major League Soccer in 2017 and won the 2018 MLS Cup in just its second season, the earliest an expansion team has won the title since 1998. The club has set multiple league records including season tickets sales (36,000-plus), single-season average (53,002) and total home attendance (901,033). Owned by Arthur M. Blank, Atlanta United plays its home matches at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. For more information about Atlanta United, including how to purchase season tickets, visit:โ€ฏwww.atlutd.com.

  1. I feel great about this win. At this point, we know it's not a fluke and that we have a legitimate chance at capturing some silverware this season. Hopefully everyone can stay healthy and in form. Vamos Atlanta

  2. now this is what us fans been use to since inaugural season….the past 2 or 3 seasons been crap…every since original coach left..

  3. Another match where Atlanta is helped by the refs! Looks like yall do have deep pockets. First, the penalty denied to Charlotte last week now Portland's first goal?!?! Yah nothing sketchy here! Can't wait to humble down here in Lion territory.
