The 2021/22 UEFA European Under-17 Championship finals kicked off on Monday 16 May. In the Group A opener, Dzenan Pejcinovic came off the bench to seal Germany’s 3-2 win against Italy, while France set the tone in Group B with an eye-catching 6-1 victory over Poland.

In the opening day’s late kick-offs, Bulgaria took an early lead against the Netherlands in their Group B encounter in Rishon Lezion, but the 2018 and 2019 winners bounced back to win 3-1. Yan Yasopove missed a second-half penalty but then found the net twice as hosts Israel won 3-0 against Luxembourg in their Group A opener in Lod.
