Potter confirms Azpilicueta in hospital and gives his verdict on a disappointing performance

Cesar Azpilicueta is given OXYGEN in worrying scenes at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea defender is taken off on stretcher.

Cesar Azpilicueta was taken to hospital after he suffered a sickening head injury during Chelsea’s defeat by Southampton.

The 33-year-old is believed to have been unconscious after Southampton substitute Sekou Mara attempted to volley the ball but only booted Azpilicueta in the face.

It was a horrible collision and the thud could be heard around Stamford Bridge.

The defender was eventually taken off on a stretcher, wearing a neckbrace, but Chelsea manager Graham Potter revealed the 33-year-old was awake and speaking to loved ones while undergoing treatment.

  1. My guys speaking like Azpilicueta after the kick 🤣🤣 he caught that kick clean to the face an mma fighter would of been proud of that connection 🤣

  2. Can someone explain to me this:
Someone with studs up, gets the ball but isn't in control and follows through and gets the defender is a red because it's dangerous and could cause injury. The intent was fully to get the ball but the player wasn't in control.

How is that different to an overhead kick, which by definition is dangerous as generally your foot is at head height, is not a red? Even if the intent is to get the ball, it's inherently dangerous?

  3. Anybody know the extent of the injury? I cudnt find a report? Hope the boy is ok. It can be very tough on mental game going forward. VVD still won't go into a 50-50 since his AC knee.

  4. U have to be f kiddin me. If u are allowed to kick full force into defending players… Can't be more RED to me, and I don't even like Chelsea.

  5. Azpi is a man that would literally put his body in the way of something like that if it means stopping a goal. Always gives everything for us, hope hes okay. What a captain what a leader.

  6. Can someone please translate the speech and retype it below for me, couldn’t understand a word! And buy this dude a dictionary and some English lessons at the same time

  7. Applause to this guy for trying his best to speak English as clearly as possible. All of you idiots in the comments making fun, go try and speak Arabic or any other language aside from English. You’ll sound just as he does. At least he’s trying his best.

  8. Excellent that even the Southampton players stopped immediately, shouted for the medics and tried to help – some other team (mentioning no one) would have continued and tried to score
