  1. I don't know that Laimer was taking a shot at Marsch, perse. This looks like the kind of thing players say whenever they want to prove the manager being sacked wasn't their fault.

And, to be fair, losing isn't fun for anyone. Underperforming puts pressure on people that takes the joy out of the game. The rest of the quote looks like the "how" they intended to enjoy football again. Keep the ball more, less of the "intentionally misplaced passes" Rangnick ball uses. More technical play.

It did strike me that RBL bought a bunch of technical players, including Iliax Morida, and then turned to Jesse Marsch, whose persona is, "I abandoned possession soccer to play Rangnick ball." Maybe they thought Marsch could wed the two styles. But that constant high intensity pressing makes it hard to slow possession.

  2. If you assist Timo Werner? Call it a miracle!

Also Dest did not make a mistake by going to Barcelona. Barcelona made a mistake by giving up on Dest.

  3. Dest was and is fine. Barca is the issue not him. Am I biased? Maybe but look a Frankie De Jong, he "looks" poor too @Barca. FCB is a perfect example of why "winning" doesn't indicate long term form *cough cough @GGG simps*.

  4. Pulisic passed him the ball at ridululous pace Werner had to control that veritable blast( sorry pass) from pulisic, turn, shimmy and score. In short Werner had still a lot of work to do.
A special mention to that Iranian fellow for Zenit: My goodness! What a player.

  5. Kind of surprising they sacked Marsch as quickly as they did. Considering he isn’t just some new hire but a guy that’s been groomed to take this job for years. I didn’t think he could really do badly enough to lose his job by now. But I guess the whole team didn’t like him? Hard to come back from that…

  6. If soccer were the most popular sport in the US from the beginning (late 1800s), how many of the 21 World Cups do you think the US would have won?

  7. The players reported as now transfer-listed at Barca are players with good resale values. Going to Barca was not a mistake for Dest. The club had wanted him. The then coach had wanted him. He had wanted to be there. The club have since imploded. The coach has gone. The circumstances are considerably changed.

  8. Let’s be real here, Dest doesn’t look bad, the entire Barca team lacks coaching and effort. Why is Xavi playing tikitaka when you barely have great midfielders. Cmon man. The whole team go skooled

  9. I like the idea of a super assist but that's where you an I may disagree with Tuchel. Werner plays in spite of his performance and Pulisic gets benched after a good game (Benched against Leeds, not even as a sub). When Pulisic gets an assist for Chelsea, it's called "The Riding the Pine guarantee"

  10. An assitaso if u assist timo Richards had a nice geno..Europa conf. League is most ridiculous thing ever created , it’s worse then English championship league

  11. As for the comparison between today's Salzburg and Marsch's Salzburg, I thought your comparison was fair. I don't think it was a particularly bad look for him to rally the troops to a 3-3 comeback against Liverpool (even though Salah did end up doing Salah stuff at the end). Honestly, I've been hoping for him to get a USMNT role ever since then.

  12. As for Dest, I think that if someone's going to say it was a "mistake" for him to go to Barcelona, even if we say it's fair play to use the benefit of hindsight, they're still going to have to make the case that his career would be in a better place if he'd stayed at Ajax. (Well, I guess one could say he could've chosen Bayern instead, but I'm not sure that would've been as good for his career either.) I have a hard time seeing his time at Barça as anything other than "falling up," if you will. Disappointing to hear that Xavi reportedly doesn't rate him, though.

  13. While the casters and analysts were endlessly hyping Pepi for more goals that your grandma could make, Brendan Aaronson and Paul Arriola were absolutely busting their asses chasing down every ball and putting relentless pressure on opposing defenses. That's why I'm neither surprised by Aaronson's success or his incredible heat map work rate. Just wish the casters would recognize how crucial he is to the USMNT.
