Matthew Hudson-Smith has been on the scene for a few years now, having competed in the 400m final at the 2016 Olympics. But in 2022, he really lived up to the potential that he had showed over the past few years. Hudson Smith earned a full set of medals in the 400m with Gold at the European Championships, Silver at the Commonwealth Games and a Bronze medal at the 2022 World Championships.
In addition to his Championship accolades, Hudson-Smith broke the British national record in the 400m with a personal best of 44.35 seconds, which is also just 2 hundredths of a second off the European record.
Will Hudson-Smith be able to not only win another World Championship medal but also run 43 seconds in the 400m next year?

You and Iwan Thomas(Former record holder) are the only people I know who agree with me that Matt can run sub 44.
I expecting a 44.1 from him this year but it didn't happen. I definitely believe it's possible next year. I think the best he'll do next season is a 43.7
Great athlete. I was happy he got a medal.
The 44.3 that he ran in the semifinals at this year's World Championships looked pretty comfortable, and he seemed to have more to give.; so I could definitely see Matthew Hudson Smith getting under 44 seconds, and really entering into the upper echelon of quarter-milers as long as he stays healthy.
If you look at how comfortable he was in the semi finals in the EU Championships 2018: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86IpcZ8PvSo – I'd say without his injury and mental health set backs he would've already run 43 by now. His new training seems to be going well so I hope he'll get it next year.
I think he will be the first Brit under 44. Managing his body will be the key injury free over 2/3 years.
