Town looked set to take the game to penalties after a determined defensive display at the Jobserve Community Stadium, but a late London City strike secured a 1-0 win.
Despite the defeat, Weir praised her team-mates for showing the qualities behind their impressive start to the season.
“I think for 89 minutes we performed really well,” she said.

“I think we defended really well, worked for each other, but ultimately against a really top team, you can’t give them anything.
“We switched off a little bit, but I’m really proud of the girls. I think it was a top effort today.”
London City dominated possession and created chances, but Ipswich threw themselves in front of shots to withstand wave after wave of pressure.
Weir said the squad takes pride in that battling display.
“That’s part of our identity,” she said.

“We know teams like that are going to have chances, but we’ve just got to do our bit to try and nullify anything and put our bodies on the line.”
Weir believes Ipswich’s tough pre-season prepared them for long spells of defending.
“We came up against really good sides in pre-season and faced something similar tonight, where we didn’t have a lot of the ball but had to defend really well, which we did,” she said.
Weir was also pleased to hear London City’s players praise Town’s battling display.
“That’s nice to hear,” she said. “We’ve been building that since Wrighty (David Wright) came in.

“We defend really well, work for each other and celebrate the little wins. We did that again tonight and I was really proud of the girls.”
Town return to WSL2 action at Sheffield United on Sunday.
Town are unbeaten in four games and sit third in the league, and Weir believes they can build on that start.
“It’s been a really strong start,” she said.
“We knew today was going to be a tough one and we’ll put it behind us, focus on Sheffield on Sunday and hopefully get another three points.”
London City’s winner came in the 90th minute, when Dutch international Danielle van de Donk struck against the crossbar and into the roof of the net.
