Manchester United could rectify their summer failures by recruiting Crystal Palace full-back Tyrick Mitchell in January.
The Red Devils revamped their midfield by signing three new players in the form of Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Carlos Baleba.
However, INEOS neglected other areas of the pitch that required intervention, especially the left-back slot, so they started the season with Luke Shaw as the only natural senior option for the role in Michael Carrick’s squad.

In the summer, Man Utd were adamant about landing Lewis Hall, but Newcastle refused to discuss a sale. The 21-year-old has since extended his contract with the Magpies, so even a future move appears unlikely as things stand.
Therefore, United must start reflecting on alternative options, and they have seemingly set their sights on Mitchell.
The London native is a Brentford youth product who moved to Crystal Palace in 2016. He managed to rise through the club’s ranks to become a key player in the first team.
The 27-year-old is capable of playing either as a left-back in a back four or a wing-back when the team plays with three at the back.
According to a popular account on X (formerly Twitter), Mitchell is ready to jump ship in January and sign for United, who are aware of the situation.

Unfortunately for Carrick, he still has a long way to go before the market reopens in January, and there’s no guarantee he’ll be at the helm by that time.
Therefore, the manager will have to navigate his way through a packed and gruelling schedule with the limited options at his disposal.
Come January, United will be able to intervene in the market, but based on INEOS’ modus operandi, we shouldn’t expect any fireworks.
At this stage, the best we could hope for is a solid, reliable option who is already familiar with the Premier League, and thus wouldn’t require a long adjustment period while the campaign is at full tilt.
Hence, Mitchell appears to be an obvious choice. At the age of 27 and with 212 EPL appearances to his name, this is the time for the London native to make a significant career step-up.

With Palace starting the campaign on a slow note under Pierre Sage, Mitchell has registered relatively modest stats thus far this season, but his numbers were far more impressive in previous years under Oliver Glasner, as documented in the table above.
The Englishman is a full-back who thrives in the defensive phase, making him a far more reliable option than Patrick Dorgu. Even Shaw would have to step up his game to preserve his starting role.
Mitchell’s contract conveniently expires in June, so he should be available at a discount.
