Newcastle United picked up an important 2-1 win against Hull City before the international break, bouncing back from a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Leeds United previously that had seen questions start to be asked of Matthias Jaissle.
Newcastle have now taken eight points from a possible 15 to begin the campaign, having sold some key players during the summer in Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon.
The Italy international joined Tottenham in a deal worth £100m and became their second player who has left for nine figures, after Alexander Isak was sold to Liverpool for a British transfer record fee of £125m in the summer of 2025.
With Guimaraes and Gordon leaving for £75m and £70m respectively during the summer, the Magpies had the cash to strengthen Jaissle’s squad as the German coach looks to build upon Eddie Howe’s impressive legacy on Tyneside.

And that is exactly what they did as they ended up spending more than £250m on eight new additions, which means there is some pressure on them to have a successful campaign.
Newcastle will look at some of the signings they have made and believe they could potentially be sold for big profits in the future, with Fernandez-Pardo and Steur looking like two prime candidates right now, while some big clubs will surely be keeping a close eye on Gonzalez’s progress at St James’ Park.
The Magpies did already have a player in their squad prior to the summer who could be their next Isak though, who has the potential to be sold for more than £100m in the future.
Lewis Miley Making Big Impact at Newcastle
Steur is already earning rave reviews at St James’ Park following his summer move from Ajax, with the 18-year-old looking unfazed by life in the Premier League despite his tender years.
The Dutchman looks to have an exciting future ahead of him based on what we’ve seen so far, but so does his midfield teammate Lewis Miley.
Even though he only turned 20 years of age in May, the youngster has already ramped up nearly 100 first-team appearances for the club, becoming a firm favourite under Howe, and now Jaissle on Tyneside.

The 20-year-old is already one of the first names on the team-sheet for Jaissle, and he has started all five of Newcastle’s Premier League matches this season.
While the 6ft 2in midfielder has been primarily used in his favoured central position so far under the German coach, he also proved his versatility by playing at right-back – as well as in central midfield – against the Tigers.
It was actually Miley’s loose touch that led to Mohamed Ali-Cho scoring for the visitors, but it was a rare blight on his Newcastle career that continues to go from strength to strength.
The summer exits of Guimaraes and Tonali, as well as the injury suffered by Joelinton, could be the turning point that sees the 20-year-old become a player who is undroppable in a black and white shirt.

He has already played in many high-pressure matches in the Premier League and Champions League for Newcastle, with insiders at the club believing he will be worth ‘north’ of £100m in the future, according to the Chronicle.
The Magpies are in a strong negotiating position for the 20-year-old too, given he signed a new six-year contract to stay at St James’ Park this summer.
Former Newcastle striker Michael Owen has certainly been taken aback by what he has seen from Miley.
I look at players such as Lewis Miley and he impressed me when he played last season and I think he has a big future.
The Chronicle also reported that Miley’s data is in the top percentile for his age, both as a midfielder and as a right-back, which is a sign of the huge player he is on course to become.
Newcastle will hope to keep hold of him for years, but should the biggest clubs come calling then it would be no surprise to see them bring in £100m+ for the second time after the Isak sale.
