Manchester United have agreed to sign Argentina central defender Lisandro Martinez from Ajax in a deal worth up to 67m euros (£57m).

The 24-year-old is expected to sign a five-year contract with the option of a further year.

The move, for an initial £49m, is subject to a medical, personal terms being finalised and a UK visa.

The deal includes £8.5m in add-ons and £2.2m in solidarity payments to Martinez’s former clubs.

He is United’s third summer signing after Tyrell Malacia joined from Feyenoord and Christian Eriksen moved on a free transfer.

Martinez played under new United manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax and won the Eredivisie title with the club in 2021 and 2022, as well as the Dutch Cup in 2021.

Paris St-Germain have signed Reims striker Hugo Ekitike on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

According to L’Equipe, PSG agreed to sign the 20-year-old outright for 36m euros (£30.6m) but an issue between Ekitike and Reims meant a permanent deal could not be done at this time.

Ekitike scored 11 times in his first full season in the Reims first team.

Ekitike is the French champions’ third summer signing after midfielder Vitinha joined from Porto and left-back Nuno Mendes arrived from Sporting Lisbon, both for a reported £34m.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said new signing Gabriel Jesus “creates chaos” after the Brazil forward scored in a 2-0 friendly win over Everton

Jesus, who scored twice against Nuremberg this month, helped set up Bukayo Saka for Arsenal’s second.

Chelsea began their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 win over Mexican side Club America at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Chelsea took the lead in the 55th minute when Timo Werner converted the rebound after his initial effort was blocked by team-mate Michy Batshuayi.

Mason Mount scored a superb winner with seven minutes remaining, shifting the ball away from a defender before curling in from 20 yards.

Aston Villa beat Leeds United 1-0 in Brisbane courtesy of a second-half penalty from substitute Danny Ings.

Illan Meslier saved a Philippe Coutinho penalty and blocked the rebound after new Leeds signing Tyler Adams was penalised for handball in the first half, but Ings made no mistake following Leif Davis’ handball.

Nottingham Forest have signed Costa Rica international midfielder Brandon Aguilera on a four-year contract.

Aguilera made his Costa Rica debut in March and has three caps.
