“It feels very, very good,” Endemann reflected afterwards. “We had a clean sheet, and we scored four goals and win the first game. I’m very happy.

“I think we kept going. It wasn’t the best game, especially in the first half. But we just kept going – we were quite aggressive in the pressing and scored goals.”

Liverpool will now return to St Helens Stadium on Sunday when they host Tottenham Hotspur (2pm BST kick-off) in their first home game of the campaign.

On starting the season in the right way and taking forward the momentum, Endemann added: “I think it’s very important because last season they had a really tough season.

“Now to start with a win it’s very important for us. We want to keep going and win the next game.”
