Lewis Brunt joined Luca Stephenson on the injured list after Saturday’s 4-0 defeat at Millwall, leaving Gaizka Larrazabal as the only specialist option to face the Hammers.
The Spaniard was dropped from the squad at The Den after being substituted at half time in the midweek defeat at Sheffield United.
But he may be fast-tracked back into the side immediately with Brunt likely now facing a spell on the sidelines after limping out in the latter stages, leaving Wanderers down to nine men against 10 and triggering a late collapse at the weekend.
“Larra should be fine for Tuesday night,” Schumacher told The Bolton News.
“Luca is only just jogging on the grass a couple of days ago so he will still be a little while.
He won’t be available until after the international break.
“Larra wasn’t injured, we just wanted to get Theo (Bair) as an extra attacking player on the bench and he was the one that missed out on the matchday squad.
He is fine, though, and available for Tuesday.”
Schumacher felt defeat at Millwall boiled down to small details and did not represent major issues for his squad.
Brunt’s injury, followed by Josh Sheehan’s dismissal and Jack Bonham’s mistake for Lyndon Dykes’ first goal signalled a sharp decline, but the Bolton boss maintained that there was no major cause for alarm.
“It is a sign of how important it is to get every single aspect of the game right,” he said.
“I keep asking the players to keep playing with confidence, because for 80 minutes of that game, I think we’re the better team.
“I’m not sure what Alex (Neil) would have thought, but that’s what I felt, because that’s what it looked like.
We had more opportunities, and we found ourselves behind, having to chase game, which is not ideal, but it’s important that they keep believing in what they’re doing.
“I said to you at the very start that there will be weeks like this, it’s what this league is all about, but you can’t lose faith in what they’re doing.
“They are giving us absolutely everything, I can’t fault the work rate and all that, but it is unforgiving.
Is it all reaching.”
Asked if there was any worry about the late flow of goals after Bonham had gifted Millwall the second goal, Schumacher added: “We’ve got nine men against 10 men.
“It’s a worry that we don’t win a duel, but we’re not fragile, it’s just three tackles.
So, no, I’m not worried about it.
I think if we don’t lose the man to the 10 men, I think we’re probably fine.
“We’re in the game and we’re pushing right to the very end.”
Wanderers have little time to lick their wounds and Schumacher admits the impending visit of West Ham now represents an even bigger challenge.
“We would certainly like a bit more time to recover, especially if we’ve picked up a couple of niggles and injuries, and if we haven’t got one of our best players (Sheehan) available, then it’s not ideal.
“But it is what it is.
We get back to work and we try and do our best to compete against West Ham on Tuesday.”
