Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “I really liked today for different reasons. First half we could have scored one or two more, but we worked together to win so I am happy.
“It is difficult against teams in a low block, I felt we dealt very well with that. Anxiety from the fans is normal, nine out of 10 of these games you end with bad feeling, but it is important to win 1-0.
“Not all the performances are going to be nice, you also need ugly moments.”
On Nico O’Reilly, who dropped out of the starting line-up following an injury in the warm-up: “In warm up [Nico] O’Reilly felt something in his back, not serious. Enzo [Fernandez] came in, his first appearance in front of the home fans was ideal.
“And [Ayyoub] Bouaddi came in last moments, difficult situation, he will improve no doubt. These players all need time.”
Manchester City’s Iliman Ndiaye, speaking to Final Score: “Very good [game]. Started with a win, so couldn’t get any better. Felt great, obviously we wanted to win the game. It has been difficult.
“Like we said to each other, all the games are going to be hard. The last few days have been really good. Obviously, I am at Manchester City now, so I am happy. Happy the move got done. The lads have been welcoming me very good.”
On leaving Everton: “It was hard. The fans and obviously one of my daughters was born there, so it was difficult. It is football, you know. I said I wanted to be playing at the highest level, playing in the big leagues – the Champions League.
“Worked really hard since I was young. Obviously, the moment finally arrived. I am not going to stop here – it is just the beginning.”
