The U.S. goes into the event on a 66-game win streak between Olympic and World Cup play dating to its last defeat in the 2006 Worlds semifinals to Russia.
The winner of each four-team group advances directly to the Sept. 10 quarterfinals. The second- and third-place teams advance to a qualifying round to determine the rest of the quarterfinalists.
