Bruno Fernandes has been announced as the Men’s Players’ Player of the Year on stage during the PFA Awards Ceremony at The Opera House in Quay Street.

Fernandes, 31, beat David Raya, Declan Rice, Erling Haaland, Gabriel Magalhaes and Rayan Cherki to the award. All six make the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, alongside Antoine Semenyo, Igor Thiago, Jurrien Timber, Nico O’Reilly (Men’s PFA Young Player of the Year) and William Saliba.

Manchester United‘s captain adds the Professional Footballers’ Association award to the Football Writers’ Association’s (FWA) Footballer of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season trophies.

“It is obviously a very proud moment,” he said. “They are the ones you go on the pitch against and it’s probably not easy to vote for someone you play against, so it is a very good moment.”

Fernandes also won Premier League Playmaker of the Season. He assisted a record-breaking 21 goals, one more than Thierry Henry in the 2002/03 season.

The midfielder scored nine goals, too. His performances led United to third place in the Premier League table, their highest finish for three years, since Erik ten Hag‘s first season.

Fernandes was named the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year for the third-straight season, having also won the award in each of his first two seasons at the club.

Fernandes has also been voted United Players’ Player of the Year for the last two seasons. Earlier in the evening, he gave his verdict on the Reds’ £70m signing of Carlos Baleba.

“I think the club has been following him for almost two years and it’s a very good moment for the club and for us,” he said. “I think the fans will love him.”
