A positive Pau Torres injury update has emerged after the Aston Villa defender missed the club’s opening pre-season fixtures.
The Spaniard suffered the problem during the first few days of training, but Villa did not initially consider it serious.
Torres was absent from the victories and defeats against Walsall and Porto respectively. His lack of involvement prompted an unsubstantiated social-media claim that he had suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Pau Torres injury update as four Villa players recover
Jacob Tanswell has now reported that Torres is injured, with the issue sustained shortly after Villa began their preparations. The early assessment suggested it was not a major problem, although no return date has been provided.
The update, relayed by Total Villa on X, also explains the absences of Alysson, Buendía and Tammy Abraham.
Alysson picked up a knock last week, while Villa are carefully managing Buendía’s workload. The Argentina international started the friendly against Walsall but did not feature during the 2-1 defeat in Porto.
Abraham continues his rehabilitation following a shoulder problem. The striker has not participated in Villa’s opening friendlies and is yet to receive a confirmed return date.
Unai Emery has therefore used several academy players during the early weeks of pre-season. Modou Cissé partnered Tyrone Mings against Porto, while Luka Lynch scored for the second consecutive match.
The Pau Torres injury update should ease fears of a lengthy absence. Villa must still assess his progress before deciding whether he can feature against Real Sociedad or during the later stages of their summer schedule.
