Gateshead welcome Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon in a pre-season friendly ahead of the new campaign.
No sooner has the World Cup finished than domestic football gets right back in full swing, with both the north east sides getting ready for their respective seasons.
For the Magpies, Eddie Howe will be wanting to do better than last term’s 12th-placed Premier League finish.
They have endured a difficult summer to date, with Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali leaving the club – albeit for huge fees and with the blessing of the majority of supporters.
But were Bruno Guimaraes’ departure to Arsenal be sanctioned, then fans may begin to get a bit uneasy.
Howe will want to start the 2026/27 campaign with a bang and preparations continue against National League Gateshead today.
