My friend, you are ignoring two things that make Enzo brilliant and destined for greatness, his capacity to adapt to a position, and to learn extremely fast, thanks to his intelligence, is something that hasn't been seen before from many players. His stats as a lone CDM wouldn't drop, they would still be amazing, instead of comparing last game stats to those in portuguese league where benfica doesn't need him to defend much, you should compare with champions league or world cup, where in both situations he had to defend a lot more, and against top oposition too, he was as outstanding defensively as he was vs fullham, so in the long term, if you left him as a sole DM he would still be world class. Having said that, you are absolutely right in that he should be playing more advanced, and totally free to move around the pitch to exploit his even more ridiculous creative qualties, and also elevating chelsea a couple levels. his 99 percentiles adjust to what the team needs from him, and I'm not even joking, feel free to check on fbref, its easy.

I don't blame Enzo at all for his defence and midfield work. Mount and Gallagher move away from him so much the coach shouting to move closer to him doesn't yield any results.
