Manchester United are in the market for a third midfielder after signing Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos this summer, and Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on the situation.
Tielemans arrived from Aston Villa earlier this month, with United activating his release clause, while the Red Devils also secured the signature of Santos from Chelsea.
United have been actively in the market for new midfield additions in the summer transfer window, particularly after it was confirmed that Casemiro would be leaving the club.
Two midfield additions might not be enough for Michael Carrick and his team, especially after Manuel Ugarte suffered a serious knee injury.
With Champions League football on the horizon, United need a deeper squad heading into next season.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano has provided an update on the midfielder situation at United.
The respected reporter has confirmed that a deal for Ederson is off, and United won’t be revisiting that in the future. Manu Kone is among a number of names on their shortlist.
“For Man Utd, the deal is 100% off and will not be recontacted, Atalanta or the player, in any case. On Manchester United midfield, I can confirm the appreciate for Manu Kone from Roma, but he’s not the only one. They’ve had contacts with the agents, but no bid to Roma, no club-to-club contact yet. Man Utd are assessing options.”
Romano also touches on the profile of the midfielder United are looking to bring in.
“Now, it’s about picking the third midfielder. Defensive, physical, who can break the lines, who can be an important player in that sense. Manchester United are exploring the market.”
It will be interesting to see how much United are willing to spend on a third midfielder, especially with Santos, Santos, and Kobbie Mainoo three key options in the middle of the park.
