The two sides could not be separated after 15 heats of racing, as the lead changed hands frequently on an entertaining night in Lincolnshire.

Neither side opened up more than a two-point lead at any stage on the night, and neither could pull away to claim victory.

It was 42-42 heading into the final heat, and a shared race saw the sides finish at 45-45, meaning the Pirates will be confident of securing the aggregate point when they meet at Wimborne Road later this season.

Guest reserve Edward Kennett top scored for the Pirates with 12+2, while Richard Lawson scored 9+1 and Zach Cook 8+1, as Will Cairns won two heats in his first meeting in the main body of the team.

Josh Pickering was the pick for the home side with a paid maximum, while Luke Harrison also impressed with 11+1.

The home side made a solid start with a 4-2 heat advantage going their way, as Pickering beat Lawson and Nathan Ablitt, while Cairns finished fourth in his first race at number two.

Pirates responded with a 4-2 of their own in heat two, as guest reserve Kennett took the victory ahead of Ablitt and Kyle Newman to level the meeting.

The points were shared in the third, as Dan Gilkes, who was signed to ride for Pirates until a delayed return, and the form of Newman, meant he did not join up with the club took the victory.

Lewis Kerr and Cooper Rushen finished second and third respectively for the first 3-3 of the night.

The Scorpions edged back out in front thanks to a Ryan Ingram win in heat four, with Luke Harrison in third, split by Pirates skipper Zach Cook for another 4-2.

Cairns put the disappointment of heat two behind him with a victorious ride in heat five, as he led Lawson for a first maximum heat advantage of the night, to open up a two-point lead for Poole.

It stayed at two points after a shared race in heat six, Pickering beating Cook and Kennett, before Scunthorpe again took the lead thanks to a 5-1, with Harrison leading Ablitt ahead of Kerr and Rushen.

Cairns earned his second win of the night in heat eight as the points were shared.

Pirates again turned a two-point deficit into a two-point advantage when captain Cook led Kennett for a 5-1 in the ninth, but the meeting was levelled the very next heat as Pickering and Ingram were split by Kerr for a home 4-2.

A second consecutive 4-2 heat advantage went the way of the home side in heat 11 as Harrison beat Lawson and Ingram, with Cairns in fourth, to move the Scorpions back in front.

But for the third time on the night, a Pirates 5-1 swung the meeting back in their favour.

This time it was guest Kennett who won heat 12 ahead of Kerr and the Scorpions pair, as Poole moved into a narrow 37-35 lead with three heats to go.

Once again, though, Scunthorpe turned the meeting around as they responded with a maximum of their own in heat 13, thanks to Harrison and Pickering.

But Pirates set up a thrilling last heat decider for the meeting when Kennett beat Ablitt and Rushen for a Poole 4-2, to make it 42-42 heading into heat 15.

The teams were not to be separated as Pickering took victory in the final heat ahead of Lawson and Cook for a 3-3, seeing the sides take a share of the spoils from the Eddie Wright Raceway.
