Arsenal are ready to go big in the transfer market this summer as they look to make history by winning consecutive league titles for the time ever.
The Gunners finished seven points ahead of Man City last season to win the Premier League title for the first time since 2004, and Mikel Arteta has added Illan Meslier to his squad so far as they look to strengthen, while Christos Tzolis’ arrival is expected to be formalized by Monday July 20th, when the squad returns for pre-season.
But the Spanish manager is keen to add more firepower to the squad, despite spending big money on the likes of Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres last summer, and Andrea Berta has now made his move to bring in the club’s top target.
Berta Jets Out of UK for Alvarez Talks

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move to sign Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez in recent months, and the former Man City star is considered to be the ‘dream target’ at the Emirates Stadium.
But Alvarez has previously been very keen to make the move to Barcelona instead, who have had a €100m offer rejected this summer already. Real Madrid have also shown an interest, having a €150m bid rejected, and it has now emerged that Atletico would prefer to sell to Arsenal, rather than a direct rival in Spain.
Arsenal have not given up hope of getting a deal done, and according to club insider Hand of Arsenal, Andrea Berta has flown out to Madrid and taken the opportunity to hold talks about getting a deal done.
There have been fresh contacts between the hierarchy of the clubs, and there is still a gap in valuation between the parties, but Alvarez has publicly stated that he wants to leave, which undoubtedly weakens the Spanish side’s negotiating position.
In a fresh twist too, it’s reported that Alvarez would be open to making the move to Arsenal this summer, but only if a move to Barcelona proved to be impossible to complete.
Alvarez is set to compete in a second straight World Cup final after Argentina’s win over England, and Arsenal are likely to accelerate talks once that is over.

Alvarez a Gamechanger for Arsenal

Arsenal may have won the Premier League and reached the Champions League final in 2025/26, but there were some major concerns about the attacking department in the squad and the lack of goals they scored.
Gyokeres was the team’s top scorer with 21 goals in 55 games during the campaign, but his overall play drew plenty of criticism from the fan base and neutrals in the media, and Alvarez’s arrival would undoubtedly improve the team in that area.
He is one of the best forwards in the world, and Fernando Torres described him as ‘the best player in the world’, so if Berta can get it done, they will cement themselves as one of the best teams in Europe.
