Leandro Trossard’s sock was ripped apart by a clumsy looking challenge from Alireza Jahanbakhsh as Belgium and Iran shared a 0-0 draw at the World Cup.
Neither were known for physical or aggressive play during their time with the Seagulls but they had a bit of tangle here.
TV pictures also showed red stud marks on Trossard’s calf muscle and he initially went down in agony.
But the Arsenal man was able to continue playing and no card was shown.
Trossard was involved in some dangerous Belgium moments but they were generally disappointing.
Iran remain in contention to go through to the knockout rounds and, at one stage, Jahanbakhsh probably surprised Seagulls fans by sending in a long throw which led to a good chance for his side.
The former Eredivisie top scorer is now past his peak and went on as a half-time subject for Iran.
But he livened them up a little down their right-hand side.
Jahanbakhsh spent the second half of last season in Belgium as he played for Dender, at the bottom of the top flight.
He is out of contract this summer.
The two players were colleagues with the Seagulls and appeared in occasional matches together, including a 2-0 mid-season win over Bournemouth in 2019-20 when they supported Neal Maupay in attack.
